Trite Project
How did you use a trite concept in an original way?
Trite is an adjective used to describe something overused and lacking originality. For example, a heart is a trite symbol of love, its overused and unoriginal. The trite symbol i chose was a rose, which is also commonly associated with love. However to make my art work more special i made the rose mean something other than love. I wanted to symbolise the fear of falling in love that many people struggle with. To some, love is tight and confining. When i see i rose, i always have thought the petals looked tight and confining as well. That's why in my art piece i will be illustrating people crawling out from the rose petals. This symbolises them trying to escape love or even the mere concept of love. Sometimes relationships are just beautiful on the outside but the complete opposite on the inside. The inside is the side we never see. I have never seen someone create an image like this before, therefore i think my drawing is very unique.
How does your composition and other art decisions make your art successful?
My art was successful in portraying an underlying meaning. I think since i'm making the people subtle and hidden (faceless as well) it allows the viewer to picture themselves as the person and reflect on the drawing in different ways that are unique to themselves. To me it resembles trying to escape the intimacy of relationships but to others it could mean something completely different. I like that and think all art is up to interpretation so by making my art piece simple, i'm making it complex and allowing people to see it in different ways.

Prisma Project
What textures did you create in your drawing? How did you apply technique/ formal elements to create them?
The textures I had to create in my drawing was the smooth scales on the snake and the rough bark of the tree. My technique for the scales was drawing every scale individually (very tedious I know) and then coloring over them with dark and light greens with force so they blended together. For the bark I included dark browns to outline the divots and crevices. This makes a more three-dimensional appearance.
What did you learn during this project? Did you overcome any challenges?
I learned during this project that even the smallest detail has a big affect on the art piece as a whole. I had to overcome the challenge of making the snakes scales appear rounded for a 3D appearance and I struggled with the lighting on the tree.

Final Exam
An Apex High School mural of a cougar, made from acrylic paint on 3 large canvases.
1.) What work that you made in Art 3 are you most proud of? Post an image and explain why.
I have always have had difficulties being proud of my artwork simply because I am my own worse critic. However, if I was to choose one piece to be proud of it would have to be my rose made out of prisma colors. This piece was never finished but I am proud of it because it was the first time I had used prisma, which was rather successful. I am also proud of it because I believe the concept of people crawling out of a rose was very creative and symbolic. I like that people can interpret different meanings that are personal to themselves.
2.) What lesson or assignment from this class was the most challenging for you? What did you learn from it?
Each art assignment was proven to be challenging because I had to explore different mediums, ones that I had never tackled beforehand. One in particular that was challenging was my gauche jellyfish. This was challenging because I had to start over with an art medium that I had never used before. Its part acrylic and watercolor, making it usable in different ways. This would make certain parts of the jellyfish appear differently (there wasn't a common style throughout the entirety of the piece).
3.) What did you like about Art 3? What would you change?
I liked that my teacher was very patient with how long it took to finish my projects. I also liked how our assignments allowed us to use whatever mediums we want. Art 3 allowed me to me people who share a similar passion in art and helped me explore myself as an artist. I don't think I would change anything, except for maybe a lesson on how to properly use gauche. Thank you for a fun class :)
